10 Things You Must Do Daily To Have A Solid Personal Devotion With God

Having a personal devotion with God is pivotal to the growth and development of every Christian. Every believer who desires to walk with God closely must understand that God deals with His children personally; and that requires having a secret place where we meet with God, somewhere apart from the general assembly (2Peter 3:18).

Here, I will briefly explain a few things you must do to have a daily solid personal devotion with God:

1. Begin And End Your Day With Prayer

During the earthly ministry of Christ, He taught His disciples so much about prayer. The miracles He did, the impact of His messages in the heart of the Jews, and all of them that heard His word and were astonished were all done by the power of God in Him as He always prayed and committed His day to God. Just as Jesus did, you should always practice the habit of committing your day to God before starting up your daily activities.

2. Have A Routine Of Daily Personal Bible Study And Prayer

Studying the bible together with daily devotionals or other good Christian pieces of literature coupled with prayer opens you up to deeper revelations from God. He reveals to you about Him, and your purpose in life, and gives you a sense of direction in life and ministry (Acts 17:11).

3. Avoid Every Form Of Distraction

If you want your personal devotion with God to be enriching then you must do away with anything that cuts you off from God at any point (Genesis 15:10,11).

4. Learn To Hear From God

God speaks to us as His children through His word, dreams, others around us, and even our inner intuition, but at times we fail to hear Him. You must understand and make use of your Spiritual communication devices if you want to have a solid personal devotion with God. (1 Samuel 3:1-15).

5. Always Have Your Writing Materials Close To You

Whatever you hear from God should be put down in a notepad for reverence purposes (Revelation 1:17-19).

6. Practice Obedience

Obedience is the only way to show respect and reverence to the commandments of God (James 1:22-24).

7. Learn To Trust God And Effectively Use The Power of Meditation

Trusting God in all circumstances will build your conviction in him and it will definitely help you become steadfast while serving Him daily, irrespective of whatever challenge you are faced with (Romans 4:2,3).

In the same vein, ruminating on the word of God renews your mind daily and empties you of every negative thought (1 Timothy 4:15).

8. Talk To God Everywhere

God is everywhere, His presence and fulness cover the whole world. God is in heaven, He’s on earth, beneath the sea, and everywhere.

(Psalm 139:7-12)
Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,

Having the mindset that God is everywhere will motivate you to communicate with Him anywhere you find yourself

9. Use Your Time Wisely

Making profitable use of your time is one sure way of having a profitable devotion with God. God, Himself is a timekeeper, He would not like you to be a waster of time. Any time you allocate for any appointment you have with God, always make sure you keep to time (Ephesians 5:15,16)

10. Give Yourself Some Rest

Some Christians do not value rest, they work and labor till they break down. You must know when your body requires rest, it’s actually for you to be re-energized and continue (Genesis 2:2)

All these and many more are practical things you must do if you want to have a refreshing time with God in your daily devotion.
